About

I'm Mark Silvester. I write about platform engineering, DevOps, and AI — specifically the engineering that makes AI work in production, not just in demos.

What I do

My day job is Platform & Architecture Manager at Griffiths Waite, a technology consultancy based in Birmingham. I work on platform strategy, architecture, cloud infrastructure, and line management.

I'm also an editor at InfoQ, one of the most respected technical publications in software engineering, where I cover DevOps, platform engineering, and how AI is reshaping both. When something significant is happening at the intersection of those disciplines, that's where I focus.

What I write about

Platform engineering is one of the fastest-growing disciplines in tech, and every organisation adopting AI is hitting the same wall: the models work, but the engineering around them doesn't. I write about that gap. The infrastructure, practices, tooling, and organisational patterns that turn AI from a prototype into something that actually ships.

That means covering DevOps and platform engineering as disciplines, the specific challenges of running AI workloads in production, and the organisational patterns emerging from teams that are figuring it out.

Speaking

I'm building out my speaking on platform engineering, DevOps, and AI operationalisation, from meetups and community events through to conferences.

If you're organising an event and think there's a fit, get in touch.
